Two Hurt in Rollover Wreck on Kaua St in Honolulu, HI

August 5, 2026

Honolulu, HI (August 5, 2026) – On Tuesday, August 4, two people were injured in a two-vehicle rollover crash on Kaua Street and Funston Road, near Fort Shafter in Honolulu. The collision occurred around 10:00 a.m.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services found one vehicle overturned on arrival. Crews evaluated both injured occupants and provided medical care.

A 44-year-old man was taken to a nearby emergency room in serious condition. A 26-year-old woman was also taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Authorities continue to investigate what caused the collision.

Our thoughts are with both injured people as they receive treatment and recover.

Why Are Rollover Crashes So Dangerous in Honolulu, HI?

Rollover crashes in Honolulu are especially dangerous because occupants may experience force from several directions as a vehicle overturns. The roof, windows, and doors may also become damaged. These factors can increase the risk of serious injuries during and after the collision.

During a vehicle rollover, seat belts and airbags provide important protection. However, occupants may still strike parts of the vehicle or become trapped inside. Loose objects within the cabin can also create additional hazards when the vehicle shifts or lands suddenly.

Across Honolulu, roads near Fort Shafter connect with Middle Street, Nimitz Highway, and the H-1 Freeway. Intersections, merging traffic, and sudden lane changes can contribute to severe collisions. An overturned vehicle may also block travel lanes and endanger nearby motorists.

In the moments afterward, damaged doors or broken glass may make it difficult for occupants to exit. Unless there is an immediate danger, you should limit unnecessary movement while waiting for emergency crews. Responders can evaluate the vehicle and provide safer assistance.

After a serious rollover, head, neck, back, and internal injuries may not cause immediate symptoms. Prompt medical care can uncover hidden injuries and document your treatment. Keep medical records, photographs, repair estimates, and insurance correspondence.

During the claims process, a Honolulu car accident lawyer can review medical records, vehicle damage, witness statements, and insurance coverage. An attorney can also explain how Hawaii’s shared-fault rules may affect your claim. This guidance can help you understand your options while you recover.
