What Mistakes Should I Avoid After a Car Accident in Honolulu, HI?
After a car accident in Honolulu, avoid delaying medical care, making assumptions about fault, or agreeing to an insurance settlement before you understand your injuries and losses. These choices can affect both your health and your claim.
At first, do not assume you are uninjured simply because you feel well. Pain, stiffness, headaches, or other symptoms may develop later, so getting appropriate medical care can help identify problems that were not immediately noticeable.
When discussing the collision, avoid guessing about how it happened or accepting responsibility before the circumstances are clear. Statements made shortly after a crash may later become important when insurers review how the collision occurred.
If an insurer offers an early settlement, consider whether your treatment and expenses are fully known before accepting it. Once a claim is resolved, seeking additional payment for later medical costs or other losses may become difficult.
After a Hawaii car accident, your personal injury protection coverage generally pays eligible medical expenses first, regardless of fault. Hawaii policies provide at least $10,000 in PIP benefits, which can help cover treatment following a collision.
Because Honolulu traffic includes major routes such as the H-1 Freeway, crashes may involve several drivers, insurers, and different types of coverage. Knowing which policy applies can become especially important when medical costs continue beyond available PIP benefits.
With several insurance policies potentially involved, determining which insurer is responsible for payment can become complicated. A Honolulu car accident lawyer can review your coverage, communicate with insurers, and track important filing deadlines.
