Three Hurt After Vehicle Hits Tree on Round Top Dr in Honolulu, HI

August 20, 2026

Honolulu, HI (August 20, 2026) – Three people were injured in a single-vehicle crash near the 3600 block of Round Top Drive in Honolulu on Wednesday, August 19. The wreck occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Initial reports indicate that the vehicle struck a tree and traveled down an embankment in the Tantalus community. All three injured people were inside the vehicle.

Emergency units treated the occupants before transporting them to a hospital. A 20-year-old man was seriously injured, while a 24-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were stable during transport.

Authorities are working to determine what caused the collision.

We hope all three injured people make a full recovery.

What Legal Options Do Injured Passengers Have After a Crash in Honolulu, HI?

After a crash in Honolulu, an injured passenger may seek personal injury protection benefits and pursue compensation from a responsible driver when Hawaii’s legal requirements are met. Additional coverage may apply if the available liability insurance is insufficient.

Once medical treatment begins, the vehicle’s PIP coverage may pay qualifying medical and rehabilitation expenses. Hawaii requires at least $10,000 in PIP benefits per person, and passengers may use this protection without first proving who caused the collision.

If the injuries meet Hawaii’s legal threshold, a passenger may bring a liability claim against the responsible driver. That claim may cover losses beyond PIP, including additional medical costs, lost income, pain, and reduced quality of life.

When more than one person contributed to the wreck, several insurance policies may become involved. Responsibility could extend to another motorist, the vehicle’s owner, or a business connected to the vehicle, depending on the available facts.

Even if the responsible driver is a friend or relative, the passenger generally seeks compensation through that person’s insurer. Filing an insurance claim does not ordinarily mean asking the driver to pay the passenger’s expenses personally.

Before discussing a settlement, gather medical records, wage statements, receipts, photographs, and insurer correspondence. These materials can show your treatment, financial losses, and how the injuries have affected your daily life.

As the claim progresses, a Honolulu car accident lawyer can identify available policies, examine responsibility, and calculate current and future losses. An attorney can also address insurer questions and evaluate whether a settlement fairly reflects the passenger’s needs.

Passenger injury claims can become difficult when several policies and legal requirements apply. At Leavitt, Yamane & Soldner, we help injured passengers understand their coverage, assess their losses, and consider the legal options available under Hawaii law.
