Crash Leaves Pedestrian Hurt on Liliuokalani Ave in Honolulu, HI

August 5, 2026

Honolulu, HI (August 5, 2026) – At Liliuokalani Avenue and Ala Wai Boulevard, Waikiki, a 41-year-old pedestrian was injured after a Honolulu officer driving a department vehicle struck him on Tuesday, August 4. The wreck occurred around 7:00 a.m.

Emergency units arrived shortly afterward and provided advanced life support for a suspected head injury. Paramedics transported the pedestrian to a nearby emergency room in serious condition. He was later upgraded to good condition.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the 25-year-old officer activated the vehicle’s emergency lights before attempting a left turn onto Ala Wai Boulevard. The department vehicle then struck the pedestrian while he was crossing within a marked crosswalk.

The officer remained at the crash site and was not injured. Investigators said speed, drugs, and alcohol did not appear to have contributed to the collision.

The Honolulu Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the collision.

We hope the injured pedestrian makes a full and steady recovery.

Who Pays Medical Bills After a Pedestrian Crash in Honolulu, HI?

After a pedestrian crash in Honolulu, medical expenses may initially be paid through no-fault coverage, health insurance, or other available benefits. The responsible party’s insurer may cover additional losses. Available coverage depends on the crash facts and insurance policies involved.

In the days following the crash, you may receive bills for ambulance transportation, emergency treatment, testing, medication, and follow-up care. Keeping copies of your bills and medical records can document your treatment. These materials may also support an insurance claim.

Across Honolulu, pedestrians regularly cross roads such as Ala Wai Boulevard, Kalakaua Avenue, and Kuhio Avenue. Turning vehicles, crowded intersections, and heavy traffic can increase collision risks. Even a marked crosswalk cannot guarantee that every driver will yield.

To preserve important evidence, keep medical bills, discharge instructions, photographs, witness details, insurance letters, and proof of missed work. Store these records together during treatment. Organized documentation can show how the crash affected your health, finances, and daily life.

As your recovery continues, follow medical instructions and attend recommended appointments. Gaps in treatment may cause an insurer to question the extent of your injury. Consistent care also helps medical providers monitor symptoms and adjust treatment.

If fault or coverage is disputed, a Honolulu pedestrian accident lawyer can review the evidence and applicable policies. An attorney may also communicate with insurers and identify available payment sources. This can help protect filing deadlines and your rights.

Insurance disputes and unpaid medical bills can add stress during recovery. At Leavitt, Yamane & Soldner, we help injured pedestrians throughout Honolulu and across Hawaii understand their options and move forward with clear guidance.
