Wreck Leaves Motorcyclist Critically Hurt on Hwy 11 in Keaau, HI

August 1, 2026

Keaau, HI (August 1, 2026) – A 64-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured on Thursday, July 30, in a crash on Highway 11 between Macadamia Nut Road and Kipimana Street in Keaau. The collision occurred at approximately 7:26 p.m.

Investigators determined that the motorcycle rear-ended a Honda CR-V while both vehicles were traveling toward Keaau.

Emergency units transported the motorcyclist to Hilo Benioff Medical Center. He remained hospitalized with critical injuries on Friday morning.

The 38-year-old Honda driver and his passenger were not hurt. Puna-bound lanes near the Stainback Highway turnoff remained closed for approximately two hours before reopening.

Investigators believe speed and inattention contributed to the collision. The Hawaii Police Department continues to investigate the crash.

We hope the injured motorcyclist makes a full recovery.

What Compensation Can I Recover After a Motorcycle Crash in Keaau, HI?

After a motorcycle crash in Keaau, you may recover compensation for medical expenses, lost income, reduced earning ability, motorcycle damage, and pain and suffering. The damages available depend on fault, insurance coverage, and supporting evidence. Every claim has different circumstances.

As your treatment continues, future medical care, rehabilitation, medication, and transportation expenses may become part of your claim. Serious injuries may also prevent you from working. Medical records and employment documents can help establish these losses.

Throughout Keaau, Highway 11, Macadamia Nut Road, and Kipimana Street carry steady local and through traffic. Motorcyclists have little protection during a collision. Their injuries may create lasting medical, personal, and financial challenges.

To document your losses, keep medical bills, treatment records, wage statements, repair estimates, and insurance correspondence. Photographs of your injuries and the motorcycle may also provide helpful evidence. These records can show how the crash affected your health and finances.

When investigators examine the crash, they may consider vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness statements, and available video. A rear-end collision does not always resolve every question about responsibility. The full evidence may determine whether another person or entity shares fault.

Depending on your coverage, health insurance or optional motorcycle medical-payments coverage may help with certain expenses. Liability coverage may apply when another party shares responsibility for the crash. The terms and limits of each policy affect the benefits available.

When claim questions arise, a Keaau personal injury attorney can review the evidence and applicable insurance policies. A lawyer can communicate with insurers and challenge unsupported decisions about fault. This support can help protect your rights and prevent unnecessary delays in your claim.
