Waipahu, HI – Teen Seriously Injured in E-Bike Crash on Waipahu St & Malakeke St

November 30, 2025

Waipahu, HI (November 30, 2025) – A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life after a violent e-bike crash on Saturday, November 29, in Waipahu. The collision happened around 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Waipahu Street and Malakeke Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Police said a 44-year-old man drove west on Malakeke Street with a young passenger when he tried to pass another vehicle by crossing into the eastbound lane. At that moment, his car slammed into the teen riding an e-bike.

The impact threw the rider onto the roadway with extreme force. Emergency crews arrived within minutes. Paramedics performed life-saving care at the scene before rushing the teen to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Doctors confirmed he remains in critical condition with severe head trauma.

The driver and his passenger did not suffer any harm. Officers blocked the area while first responders cleared the wreckage and gathered evidence. Investigators photographed the scene, examined skid marks, and interviewed witnesses to understand what led to the crash.

Police said speed may have contributed to the collision, but they are still working to determine the full cause. The Honolulu Police Department is leading the investigation and will share more information as it becomes available.

We wish the injured young man a full and steady recovery.

E-Bike Accidents in Hawaii

E-bike accidents are rising across Hawaii as more people turn to them for daily travel. These bikes offer speed and convenience but also expose riders to serious danger when sharing busy roads with cars and trucks. Without the protection of an enclosed vehicle, even a minor collision can cause catastrophic injuries.

Many e-bike crashes in Hawaii happen when drivers fail to see riders in traffic or misjudge their speed. Narrow streets, poor lighting, and heavy congestion make it harder for vehicles to share the road safely with e-bikes. Sudden lane changes or speeding in residential areas also increase the risk of devastating collisions.

E-bike accidents often leave riders with severe head injuries, broken bones, or spinal damage that can lead to lifelong complications. Many victims face long hospital stays, painful surgeries, and months of physical therapy. Beyond the physical harm, these crashes cause deep emotional distress and financial strain for both victims and their families.

Victims of serious e-bike crashes may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Medical treatment, surgeries, and future rehabilitation
  • Lost wages and reduced earning potential
  • Pain, suffering, and emotional distress
  • Property damage or e-bike replacement costs

Insurance companies often move fast to offer low settlements that don’t reflect the true cost of recovery. Without legal guidance, many victims accept less than they deserve. A trusted personal injury lawyer in Waipahu can investigate the crash, collect vital evidence, and fight to secure fair compensation for your losses.
