Oahu, HI – 21-Year-Old Man Killed in Crash on Joseph P Leong Hwy

September 25, 2025

Oahu, HI (September 25, 2025) – A tragic crash claimed the life of a 21-year-old man and left others injured on Wednesday morning, September 24, in Haleiwa. The deadly collision happened just after 6:00 a.m. on Joseph P Leong Highway near Cane Road, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Investigators said a 58-year-old man drove north when he crossed into the southbound lanes. His vehicle struck a southbound car driven by a juvenile girl with a young passenger beside her.

The force of that collision pushed the 58-year-old man’s vehicle into a second southbound car driven by the 21-year-old victim. The impact crushed his car and threw him onto the roadway. Moments later, the 58-year-old man’s vehicle hit a third southbound car driven by a 23-year-old man.

Emergency crews arrived within minutes. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free the 21-year-old driver. Paramedics tried to save him, but he died at the scene.

The juvenile driver and her passenger escaped without major injuries, while the 58-year-old driver declined additional treatment.

The Honolulu Police Department closed the highway in both directions for several hours as investigators documented the scene. Officers documented the wreckage, gathered evidence, and spoke with witnesses to determine what happened.

Authorities confirmed that drugs, alcohol, and speeding do not appear to be factors. The investigation is ongoing:

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the young man who lost his life in this heartbreaking crash.
