Injury Vehicle Accidents in Hawaii

With approximately one million registered vehicles on the road, Hawaii sees an alarming number of motor vehicle accidents each year. Roughly 10,000 crashes resulting in serious injuries are reported annually across the state. Even more concerning, traffic-related fatalities have been steadily rising—94 people lost their lives in a recent year, up from 85 the year before.

While each crash is investigated individually, many of the most severe accidents are linked to driver negligence. Common causes include drunk driving, speeding, distracted driving, and fatigue—factors that continue to endanger motorists across Hawaii and the nation. Nationally, studies show that negligent drivers are responsible for up to 90% of all traffic accidents, and Hawaii is no exception.
