Man Seriously Hurt in Crash on H-1 Fwy in Aiea, HI
July 22, 2026
Aiea, HI (July 22, 2026) – On Tuesday, July 21, a 37-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a crash on the H-1 Freeway just past the Kaonohi Street overpass in Aiea. The collision occurred around 10:20 a.m. and brought eastbound traffic to a standstill.
Honolulu EMS transported the injured man to a hospital in serious condition.
The crash blocked all eastbound lanes while crews assessed the vehicles and cleared the roadway. Crews moved the vehicles to the shoulder after roughly 40 minutes, allowing the freeway to reopen.
The Honolulu Police Department continues to investigate the crash and may release more information as it becomes available.
We are thinking of the injured man as he recovers.
What Qualifies as a Serious Injury After a Car Accident in Aiea, HI?
After a serious Aiea crash, an injury may meet Hawaii’s legal threshold when it causes a significant permanent loss of bodily function or permanent and serious disfigurement. The threshold may also be met when qualifying personal injury protection expenses reach at least $5,000 or the crash results in death.
As the initial shock fades, the full extent of an injury may become clearer. Internal injuries, spinal damage, and head trauma may not cause immediate symptoms. Prompt medical evaluation and careful follow-up can protect both a person’s health and claim.
Throughout the busy H-1 corridor, drivers face tight merges near Moanalua Road, Kamehameha Highway, and the Kaonohi Street ramps. Sudden congestion and freeway speeds can leave motorists with little time or space to avoid a collision.
Under Hawaii’s no-fault insurance system, an injured person generally turns first to personal injury protection benefits for covered medical care. A claim against the at-fault driver may become available when the injury or medical expenses satisfy one of Hawaii’s legal exceptions.
During the weeks after treatment begins, careful documentation can strengthen a serious injury claim. Medical bills, imaging results, prescriptions, work notes, and follow-up records can show the cost of care and how the injury disrupted daily life.
When an insurer disputes the injury, proving its seriousness can become difficult. An Aiea car accident lawyer can review the medical findings, compare them with Hawaii’s legal threshold, and explain which records or next steps may support the claim.
