Honolulu, HI – Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Double Hit-and-Run on Nimitz Hwy
August 30, 2025
Honolulu, HI (August 30, 2025) – A pedestrian is fighting for his life after a double hit-and-run on Nimitz Highway in Kalihi on Thursday, August 28.
The Honolulu Police Department reported that the crash happened around 12:03 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway. The 50-year-old man was lying in the roadway when an eastbound vehicle struck him. The driver did not stop and continued driving, leaving the victim on the ground with serious injuries.
Moments later, a second vehicle traveling eastbound struck the man again. That driver also fled without stopping to help.
Emergency Medical Services rushed to the scene and provided immediate treatment. Paramedics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where doctors placed him in critical condition. Officials said his injuries are severe and life-threatening.
Investigators are still working to determine whether speed, alcohol, or drugs contributed to the crash.
The Honolulu Police Department is leading the investigation and urging anyone with information about the drivers to come forward.
Our hearts go out to the injured man and his loved ones, and we wish him a full and swift recovery.
Pedestrian Accidents in Hawaii
Hawaii’s roads present unique dangers for pedestrians. Busy highways, late-night traffic, and limited visibility in certain areas all increase the risk of catastrophic crashes. Sadly, many of these accidents happen when drivers ignore their responsibility to stop and help. Hit-and-run accidents, like the one on Nimitz Highway, leave victims in an even more desperate situation because medical care is often delayed.
Across Hawaii, pedestrian accidents often lead to life-changing injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones, and internal bleeding. These injuries can leave victims unable to work, care for their families, or live independently. Families carry the heavy burden of medical bills, long-term rehabilitation, and the emotional toll of seeing a loved one suffer.
Reports show that serious pedestrian crashes happen far too often in Honolulu County and across the islands. Many occur in dark hours or on high-speed roadways where drivers may not expect to see someone crossing or in the roadway. Every time a driver flees the scene, it makes recovery harder for victims and families who are already struggling.
When a serious pedestrian accident happens, victims and their families often feel lost. Insurance companies may delay or deny claims. Medical expenses pile up. The legal system can feel overwhelming. This is where having an experienced Honolulu pedestrian accident lawyer makes all the difference.
