Honolulu, HI – Multi-Vehicle Crash on H-1 Fwy Leaves Victims Seriously Injured

August 27, 2025

Honolulu, HI (August 27, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision brought traffic to a standstill on Tuesday morning, August 26. The crash happened around 4:00 a.m. on the H-1 Freeway.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, multiple vehicles collided, causing major damage and blocking four lanes of traffic. Emergency responders rushed to the scene.

Paramedics treated at least three victims. One person suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Two others were treated at the scene but declined further medical care. Crews later brought in four tow trucks to remove the damaged vehicles.

Police closed multiple lanes during the response, which caused backups stretching as far as Kunia. By 6:00 a.m., lanes reopened, though traffic remained slow. At 6:30 a.m., the Department of Transportation opened the zipper lane to all vehicles to help ease congestion.

The Honolulu Police Department is still investigating the cause of the crash.

Our thoughts are with those injured. We wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Car Accidents in Hawaii

Car accidents are one of the most common causes of serious injury in Hawaii. Thousands of crashes are reported each year across the islands, many involving life-changing injuries

National statistics show over six million car accidents occur annually, with driver negligence playing a major role.

Common causes of car accidents in Honolulu include:

  • Distracted Driving: Texting, phone use, or looking away from the road often leads to missed traffic changes.
  • Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drug use continue to cause devastating crashes in Hawaii.
  • Failure to Yield: Drivers changing lanes or turning sometimes fail to see vehicles already on the road.
  • Speeding: Excessive speed reduces reaction time and makes crashes more severe.

Victims of serious car accidents face far greater risks than those involved in minor collisions. High-impact crashes often lead to broken bones, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and internal damage. Even when victims survive, recovery may take months of hospitalization, surgeries, and long-term rehab.

The emotional toll is just as heavy. Many victims experience anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and a lasting fear of driving.

If you were injured in a car accident, you may be entitled to financial compensation. This can include medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and the cost of ongoing care.

Unfortunately, insurance companies often try to settle claims for less than victims deserve. They may delay payments, deny coverage, or pressure victims into unfair settlements.

This is why working with an experienced Honolulu car accident lawyer is so important. A skilled attorney investigates the crash, gathers police reports and medical records, interviews witnesses, and negotiates directly with insurance companies.
