17-Year-Old Critically Hurt in Hit-and-Run on S King St in Honolulu, HI

June 29, 2026

Honolulu, HI (June 29, 2026) – A 17-year-old riding an electric motorcycle was critically hurt on Sunday night, June 28, after a hit-and-run crash on South King Street in the McCully area of Honolulu.

The teen was riding westbound when a woman turning left into a driveway struck him. The driver briefly exited her vehicle to check on the teen before leaving without rendering aid or providing information. The teen was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The vehicle involved was later found parked and unattended, though the driver had not been identified at the time of this report. Authorities are still investigating.

We hope the teen receives the best possible care and makes as full a recovery as possible.

What Should Parents Do After a Teen Is Hurt in a Hit-and-Run in Honolulu, HI?

When a teenager is hurt in a hit-and-run crash in Honolulu, parents should focus on two immediate priorities: ensuring their child receives thorough ongoing medical care and consulting a personal injury attorney to understand what legal options exist even before the driver is identified.

In Hawaii, uninsured motorist coverage is specifically designed to address situations where a driver flees the scene and cannot be immediately identified, allowing families to pursue compensation through their own insurance policy or a household member’s policy rather than having to wait for the at-fault driver to be located.

Even after the critical phase has stabilized, parents should make sure their child receives all recommended follow-up care following the initial emergency treatment. Consistent medical monitoring is particularly crucial because critical injuries sustained by a teen in a motorcycle accident can have long-term physical effects that may not be fully understood until weeks or months after the incident.

Maintaining thorough documentation of all medical visits, treatments, and associated costs results in a record that accurately depicts the extent of the adolescent’s injuries and supports any potential legal action.

On the legal side, parents should understand that personal injury claims involving minors in Hawaii follow specific legal procedures, including the requirement that any settlement reached on a child’s behalf receive court approval to ensure the child’s long-term interests are properly protected.

A Honolulu personal injury lawyer may be able to help parents file a claim under available uninsured motorist coverage while the investigation continues, monitor the case for updates that may identify the responsible driver, and ensure that any resolution reached accounts for both the immediate and future needs of their child.
