Honolulu, HI – Pedestrian and Driver Injured in Crash at S Hotel St & Alakea St

April 12, 2026

Honolulu, HI (April 12, 2026) – A 35-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, April 11, after allegedly ramming his vehicle into another car and striking a pedestrian in Honolulu. The incident was reported around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Hotel Street and Alakea Street.

Police say the suspect ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into a second vehicle. His car also struck a pedestrian in the area.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and provided medical attention. A 54-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, the pedestrian, were taken to the hospital in serious condition. The extent of their injuries has not been confirmed at this time.

Officers temporarily closed South Hotel Street in all directions between Bishop and Richard streets. The 35-year-old suspect was found and arrested after the incident. Police opened two attempted murder cases in connection with the crash.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.

We wish the injured individuals a full and speedy recovery.

Compensation Available After a Crash in Hawaii

Victims of traffic crashes in Hawaii may be able to recover compensation and may have several legal options available to them. This can include payment for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. In cases involving intentional or reckless conduct, punitive damages may also be considered.

Medical expense compensation can cover emergency care, hospital stays, surgery, and ongoing treatment. Rehabilitation costs and future medical needs may also be factored into a claim. Documenting every treatment visit and related expense helps support this part of a case.

Lost income is another area where compensation may be available. Serious injuries often prevent victims from returning to work for weeks or months. A claim may account for both wages already lost and future earning capacity affected by the injuries.

Pain and suffering damages address the non-financial impact of a crash. This includes physical discomfort, emotional distress, and reduced quality of life during recovery. These damages are separate from medical bills and are calculated differently depending on the circumstances.

Punitive damages may apply when a person’s actions go beyond ordinary negligence. Courts may award these damages to punish harmful conduct and discourage similar behavior. They are considered separately from compensation tied to financial or personal losses.

Insurance companies often work to limit the amount they pay out after a crash. Adjusters may contact victims early and offer settlements that do not reflect the full extent of the injuries. Accepting a quick offer before understanding all available options can affect what a person is able to recover.

A Honolulu car accident attorney can examine insurance policies, medical records, and incident reports to give a clearer picture of what compensation may be available. An attorney can also guide you through the claims process.
