What Damages Can I Recover After a Moped Accident in Hawaii?
If you were hurt in a moped accident in Honolulu, you may be entitled to compensation for your medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and property damage. The exact damages depend on your injuries and how they affect your daily life.
For many people, medical expenses are the most immediate concern after a serious crash. You can seek compensation for emergency care, hospital stays, surgeries, medications, and any future treatment your injuries may require. These costs add up quickly, and documenting them from the start is important.
If your injuries prevent you from working, you can recover compensation for lost wages. This can include missed wages, reduced hours, or time away from your job for medical appointments. Pay records, employer letters, and work schedules can help show how the crash affected your earnings.
In addition to financial losses, pain and suffering damages account for the physical pain and emotional impact of your injuries. Hawaii courts recognize that serious injuries affect more than just a person’s finances. Compensation for pain and suffering is calculated based on injury severity and the length of recovery.
You can also recover compensation for damage to your moped after a crash. This can include repair costs or the fair market value if the bike is totaled, as well as any personal items damaged in the collision. Photos, repair estimates, and receipts can help support your claim.
Insurance companies may dispute claims after an accident, especially when fault, injuries, or coverage details are unclear. They may question medical records, delay payment, or offer less than the claim is worth.
Speaking with a Honolulu moped accident attorney can help protect your rights during the claims process. A lawyer can review the details of your accident and explain which damages may apply to your situation.
