Waimanalo, HI – UTV Crash on Kalanianaole Hwy Leaves Two Men Seriously Injured

September 21, 2025

Waimanalo, HI (September 21, 2025) – A violent crash in Waimanalo left two men with severe injuries on Saturday night, September 20. The collision happened just after 8:15 p.m. on Kalanianaole Highway near Hihimanu Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

The crash involved a utility task vehicle and another car. The impact crushed the UTV, trapping one man inside. Firefighters arrived quickly and used heavy rescue tools to pull him from the wreckage. Paramedics treated him at the scene and rushed him to the hospital in critical condition.

A seventy-four-year-old man also suffered serious injuries in the crash. Emergency crews stabilized him on the roadway before transporting him to the hospital for advanced care. Both men remain under close medical supervision as doctors work to stabilize their conditions.

The Honolulu Police Department shut down the highway for several hours to investigate. Officers photographed the scene, collected debris, and spoke with witnesses late into the night. Police confirmed that they are still reviewing the cause of the collision.

Our thoughts are with the two victims and their families as they begin the difficult road to recovery.

UTV Accidents in Hawaii

Utility task vehicles, or UTVs, are widely used in Hawaii for recreation, farming, and transport. But when they enter busy highways, the risks increase dramatically. Unlike cars or trucks, UTVs offer little protection in a collision, and riders often suffer the most serious injuries.

Highways like Kalanianaole see heavy traffic, tight lanes, and sharp curves. A sudden distraction or reckless move can turn into disaster within seconds. UTVs make these risks even greater. Their lightweight frames and high centers of gravity make them more unstable, especially during a violent collision.

The consequences of a UTV crash can be devastating. Riders often face traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, internal bleeding, and multiple broken bones. Many victims spend weeks in the hospital and require extensive surgeries. Even when they survive, recovery can take months or years of painful rehabilitation. Families must watch loved ones endure this long process while carrying the financial burden of medical bills, lost income, and permanent lifestyle changes.

Insurance companies usually move quickly after a crash, but their early settlement offers rarely cover long-term needs. Many victims feel pressured to accept far less than what they truly deserve. Without strong legal support, families may be left struggling to pay for care and rehabilitation.

That is why working with a trusted personal injury lawyer in Honolulu County matters. A skilled attorney investigates the crash, gathers evidence, consults with medical experts, and negotiates directly with insurance companies.
