Wailua, HI – 25-Year-Old Woman Killed in Head-On Crash on Kuamoo Rd
November 6, 2025
Wailua, HI (November 6, 2025) – A 25-year-old woman tragically lost her life on Tuesday evening, November 4, after a violent head-on collision on Kuamoo Road in Wailua.
According to the Kauai Police Department, the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Melia Street. A 2006 Honda sedan heading eastbound on Kuamoo Road collided head-on with a 2019 Nissan van traveling in the opposite direction.
The impact crushed the front ends of both vehicles, scattering debris across the roadway. Crews rushed to the scene and found the woman critically injured inside the Honda. Paramedics treated her at the scene before transporting her to Wilcox Medical Center. Despite doctors’ efforts, she died shortly after arrival.
The driver of the Nissan, a 50-year-old man from Kapaa, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency personnel treated him at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for additional care.
Officers shut down Kuamoo Road in both directions for nearly three hours while they examined the scene, measured skid marks, and cleared the wreckage. Preliminary findings suggest that speed may have been a factor in the crash, though Kauai Police Department officials say toxicology results are still pending.
The investigation is ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim as they mourn this tragic loss. Our hearts are also with those injured, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
Fatal Car Accidents in Hawaii
Car accidents are among the leading causes of serious injury and death in Hawaii, and families often face unimaginable heartbreak when a crash turns fatal. Many of these collisions happen on narrow or winding roads where speeding, distraction, or impaired driving leave drivers with little room to react.
Recent data from the Hawaii Department of Transportation shows that speeding contributes to nearly 40% of fatal crashes statewide. In many cases, victims are struck head-on after another vehicle crosses the center line. Even a moment of carelessness on these roads can cause permanent loss and grief for those left behind.
Losing someone suddenly in a crash can leave families struggling with more than just emotional pain. The financial and practical challenges that follow, including medical expenses, funeral costs, and the loss of future income, can feel overwhelming. But families do not have to face this alone.
Under Hawaii law, the surviving family members of fatal crash victims may be entitled to compensation for:
- Medical and funeral expenses
- Loss of companionship and support
- Pain and suffering
- Lost income or benefits
