Waianae, HI – Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Farrington Hwy

November 8, 2025

Waianae, HI (November 8, 2025) – A 65-year-old man lost his life on Friday evening, November 7, after a hit-and-run crash on Farrington Highway near the Hele gas station in Waianae.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the crash happened around 5:10 p.m. An unknown driver was heading south through the extended private driveway of the Hale Wai Vista apartment complex when they struck the man as he crossed toward Farrington Highway.

Instead of stopping to help, the driver turned right onto Farrington Highway and continued westbound, leaving the man critically injured on the ground. Witnesses immediately called 911 while nearby residents rushed to his side.

First responders arrived within minutes and found the victim unresponsive near the roadway. Emergency Medical Services performed advanced life support and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts, he later died from his injuries.

Honolulu Police Department officers secured the scene and began collecting evidence, including surveillance footage from nearby businesses. Investigators noted there are no marked crosswalks where the crash happened, which may have made it difficult for the man to cross safely.

Police said speed does not appear to be a factor, but it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role. Detectives continue to search for the hit-and-run driver and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The investigation remains ongoing.

We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Hawaii

Pedestrian accidents in Hawaii often end in tragedy, especially on busy roads like Farrington Highway. When drivers fail to stay alert or flee the scene, innocent lives are cut short, leaving families in deep grief and uncertainty.

Many pedestrian accidents in Hawaii happen because drivers get distracted, speed, or fail to notice people crossing the road. Poor lighting and missing crosswalks make it even harder for drivers to see pedestrians until it’s too late. Sometimes, impaired or reckless driving turns a simple walk into a heartbreaking tragedy.

Pedestrians have no protection in a crash, so even a single impact can cause catastrophic injuries like brain trauma, internal bleeding, or broken bones. When victims don’t survive, their families face not only deep emotional pain but also the heavy burden of medical bills, funeral costs, and lost income.

Hit-and-run accidents add another layer of heartbreak. When a driver escapes responsibility, families are left waiting for justice and answers. Leaving the scene of a crash is a serious crime, and drivers who flee can face severe legal consequences once identified.

If your loved one died in a pedestrian accident, you may be entitled to compensation. This may include:

  • Medical expenses before death
  • Funeral and burial costs
  • Lost income and benefits
  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of companionship

A skilled wrongful death lawyer can investigate the crash, find the responsible driver, and fight for the compensation your family deserves.
