Omao, HI – Man Seriously Injured in UTV Crash on Kaumualii Hwy
September 15, 2025
Omao, HI (September 15, 2025) – On Saturday morning, September 13, a 60-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a crash involving a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) and a truck along Kaumualii Highway near the Omao Track.
According to the Kauai Police Department (KPD), the crash occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. when a westbound truck struck the back of the UTV. The impact caused the UTV to veer into the westbound shoulder embankment, where it rolled onto its side. The UTV driver was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
Emergency responders transported the injured man to the hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition. The driver of the truck, a 20-year-old man from Koloa, was not injured in the crash.
Kaumualii Highway was closed in both directions for about two hours while emergency crews worked at the scene. Police noted that neither speed nor impairment appeared to have been factors in the collision.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact law enforcement officials.
We wish the injured man strength and healing during his recovery.
Traffic Accidents on Kauai
Collisions along Kaumualii Highway and other major Kauai roadways continue to pose risks to both drivers and passengers. While cars and trucks provide more protection, UTVs and smaller vehicles leave occupants vulnerable in the event of a collision.
Some of the most common factors that contribute to serious crashes on Kauai include:
- Distracted driving: Taking eyes off the road, even briefly, can lead to dangerous rear-end collisions.
- Driver fatigue: Early morning and late-night driving often increases the risk of accidents caused by reduced alertness.
- Unsafe road conditions: Narrow highways and embankments can make crashes more severe when vehicles leave the roadway.
- Failure to maintain a safe distance: Following too closely can result in rear-end crashes, especially at highway speeds.
Victims of crashes often face significant medical expenses and lengthy recovery times. Seeking timely medical care and legal advice can help injured individuals protect their rights and explore options for compensation.
