Oahu, HI – Woman Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Palahia St

September 5, 2025

Oahu, HI (September 5, 2025) – On Thursday morning, August 4, a woman in her 60s died following a traffic crash in Makakilo. The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. on Palahia Street near Makakilo Drive.

According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), the woman was crossing the road outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by an eastbound vehicle. Emergency Medical Services transported her to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

The driver involved remained at the scene and was not injured. Authorities reported that speed, drugs, and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family members during this difficult time.

Traffic Accidents on Oahu

Traffic accidents are an ongoing concern on Oahu, affecting drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. Each year, hundreds of crashes occur across the island, ranging from minor collisions to serious or fatal incidents. Intersections, busy streets, and areas with heavy pedestrian traffic are common locations for accidents.

Common causes of traffic accidents include:

  • Driver distraction: Using a cellphone, adjusting GPS, or other activities that take attention away from the road.
  • Speeding: Driving faster than the posted limit or too fast for road conditions.
  • Failure to yield or follow traffic signals: Ignoring stop signs or red lights can lead to serious collisions.
  • Poor visibility: Nighttime, rain, or fog can make it harder for drivers and pedestrians to see each other.
  • Sudden lane changes or misjudged turns: Quick or unsafe maneuvers can result in crashes.

Pedestrian accidents are a particular concern, especially in areas without marked crosswalks. Motorcyclists are also at higher risk because they are less protected than drivers in cars.

Local authorities, including the Honolulu Police Department and emergency services, work to respond quickly to accidents, provide medical care, and investigate the causes. They also encourage safe driving habits, obeying traffic laws, and remaining attentive on the roads to help prevent accidents.

Understanding these risks and practicing safe driving can help reduce traffic accidents on Oahu. Everyone, drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, plays a role in keeping the roads safe. If you or a loved one has been involved in a traffic accident on Oahu, it is important to get professional guidance. A trusted Honolulu County pedestrian accident lawyer can provide support and advice to ensure your case is handled properly.
