Maui, HI – Two-Vehicle Crash, Injuries Shut Down Haleakala Hwy at Hali’imaile Rd

November 24, 2024

Maui, HI (November 24, 2024) – Local officers are investigating following a car crash that occurred in the Maui area early on Sunday morning, November 24.

According to reports provided by the Maui Police Department (MPD), a collision between at least two vehicles took place on the Mauka side of the Haleakala Highway at Hali’imaile Road. The incident prompted authorities to close down the roadway after the crash blocked all lanes in the area.

EMTs and Engine 5 from the Maui Fire Department were also called in to assess the victims’ injuries. At this time, however, the incident is still being investigated, and it’s unclear how many people were ultimately hurt in the incident. Witnesses were asked to get in touch with the MPD in the meantime.

Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families at this time.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Maui

Multi-vehicle accidents on the island of Maui have become an increasing concern, particularly as tourism and local traffic continue to rise. Narrow, winding roads, coupled with the island’s growing population and influx of visitors, create a perfect storm for accidents involving multiple vehicles. These collisions often result in serious injuries and fatalities, as well as significant traffic disruptions, impacting both residents and tourists alike.

The combination of distracted driving, speeding, and unfamiliarity with the terrain contribute to the frequency of these incidents. Authorities in Maui are working to address the issue through enhanced road safety measures, public awareness campaigns, and improved traffic management, but the challenge remains significant.

And, of course, building and litigating these kinds of cases demands an experienced and knowledgeable car accident lawyer in Maui who understands Hawaii’s car insurance laws to find other sources of reimbursement, like uninsured motorist coverage in cases involving a driver with no insurance or underinsurance motorist coverage in cases involving drivers with inadequate coverage.

Like other no-fault insurance states, Hawaii also sets a tort threshold for suing the negligent driver in a traffic accident. In Hawaii, you may only file a personal injury suit if you suffered medical expenses and other related damages totaling $5,000 or more or you sustained severe or permanent injuries like the loss of a bodily function, loss of a body part, or disfigurement.
