It happened at 5:15 a.m. on the Moanalua Freeway. According to the Honolulu Police Department, a 39-year-old man was driving westbound on the freeway when he tried to merge lanes and crashed into a 40-year-old motorcyclist. The motorcyclist then hit a metal guardrail and was ejected from his motorcycle and onto the roadway. He was then taken to Pali Momi Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died, officials said. However, officers asked witnesses to get in touch as they launched an inquiry into the cause of the accident.
