Lanikai, HI – Worker Killed, Two Injured After Wall Collapse on Mokulua Dr

March 13, 2026

Lanikai, HI (March 13, 2026) – On Wednesday morning, March 11, a tragic construction accident occurred at a residential job site on Mokulua Drive in the Lanikai neighborhood of Honolulu.

Emergency responders from the Honolulu Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene at approximately 8:56 a.m. after reports that a wall had collapsed on several workers.

According to officials, a masonry wall estimated to be about six to seven feet high collapsed while three workers were digging alongside it at the construction site. The collapse buried a 58-year-old worker under debris. Despite rescue efforts and attempts to revive him after he was pulled from the rubble, the man died at the scene due to severe injuries.

Two other workers, ages 34 and 39, were also trapped under debris during the collapse. Rescue crews were able to free both individuals, who suffered serious leg injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Firefighters remained on the scene to stabilize the surrounding construction area and ensure no additional structural hazards were present. Aalapapa Drive and Pokole Way were temporarily closed while authorities investigated the incident and cleared the area.

Officials stated that the exact cause of the wall collapse is still unknown. Investigators from multiple agencies, including local police, the state Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and city construction and building departments, responded to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Our thoughts are with the family of the worker who lost his life and with those injured in this tragic incident.

What To Do After a Construction Site Injury in Lanikai

Construction work can involve serious hazards, and when an accident occurs, injured workers need to take certain steps to protect their health and legal rights.

  • Seek Immediate Medical Attention
Injured workers should receive medical care as soon as possible. Even injuries that seem minor may worsen over time. Prompt medical treatment ensures proper care and creates official records documenting the injury.

  • Report the Incident
The accident should be reported to a supervisor or employer immediately. Employers are typically required to document workplace injuries and report serious incidents to relevant safety authorities.

  • Document the Scene
If possible, gather information about the accident. Photographs of the area, equipment, debris, or unsafe conditions can help explain how the incident occurred. Witness statements may also be valuable.

  • File a Workers’ Compensation Claim
Injured workers may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits to cover medical expenses and lost wages. Filing a claim promptly can help ensure benefits begin as soon as possible.
  • Consult an Injury Attorney
In some cases, additional parties such as contractors, property owners, or equipment manufacturers may share responsibility for unsafe conditions. A wrongful death accident attorney can evaluate the situation and help determine whether additional legal options are available.
