Kaneohe, HI – Pedestrian Killed in Collision on Kahekili Hwy Near Haiku Rd
October 29, 2025
Kaneohe, HI (October 29, 2025) – A 71-year-old woman lost her life on Tuesday evening, October 28, after a serious pedestrian crash on Kahekili Highway near Haiku Road in Windward Oahu.
The crash happened around 6:00 p.m. when a 69-year-old woman driving north on Kahekili Highway struck the pedestrian who was walking outside a marked crosswalk. Witnesses described the impact as severe and said traffic came to a sudden stop as bystanders rushed to help.
First responders arrived within minutes and found the woman unresponsive. Paramedics tried to save her, but the injuries were too severe. She died at the scene. The driver stayed at the site and cooperated with investigators. She did not report any injuries.
Officers closed Kahekili Highway in both directions between Haiku Road and Hui Iwa Street to document the scene and clear debris. Investigators later confirmed that speed, alcohol, and drugs did not appear to be factors. The Honolulu Police Department is leading the investigation and will share updates as more information becomes available.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family during this heartbreaking time.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Hawaii
Pedestrian crashes in Hawaii often lead to devastating outcomes, especially on busy roads like Kahekili Highway where visibility is limited and drivers may not expect pedestrians. A single careless act can change lives forever.
The most common causes of fatal pedestrian accidents include:
- Driver Inattention: Many collisions happen when drivers are distracted or fail to see people crossing.
- Speeding: Excessive speed reduces a driver’s ability to react and increases the force of impact.
- Poor Visibility: Low lighting, glare, or dark clothing often prevent drivers from spotting pedestrians in time.
- Failure to Yield: Many drivers fail to stop for people crossing, even in designated areas.
- Unsafe Road Conditions: Lack of sidewalks, poor lighting, or confusing intersections make walking more dangerous.
Each year, dozens of pedestrians in Hawaii suffer serious or fatal injuries. Families who lose loved ones in pedestrian accidents face unimaginable grief and unexpected financial strain from funeral costs, medical expenses, and loss of income. Pursuing a wrongful death claim can help them seek justice and hold negligent drivers accountable.
If you lost someone you love in a pedestrian accident, you don’t have to face this alone. A brave wrongful death lawyer can investigate the crash, negotiate with insurance companies, and fight for the justice and financial support your family deserves.
