Honolulu, HI – Woman Killed, Driver Arrested in Moped Crash on Kalanianaole Hwy

Honolulu, HI (July 13, 2025) – A moped collision occurred in the Waimanalo area and resulted in one fatality on Friday, July 11.
The collision occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. along Kalanianaole Highway and Bell Street and involved a moped. It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 44-year-old driver was traveling northbound on the highway when he traveled into the southbound lane and struck a 41-year-old woman who was driving a moped.
As a result of the collision, the 41-year-old woman was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 44-year-old man received minor injuries as a result of the collision. Police also reported that the 44-year-old man was placed under arrest for “Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant and Negligent Homicide in the First Degree”.
Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor to the collision, but it’s unknown if speed or drugs were also a factor. However, local law enforcement authorities are investigating the crash, and the HPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Traffic Division.
