Honolulu, HI – Two Women Injured in Rollover Crash on Funston Rd & Kaua St

October 22, 2025

Honolulu, HI (October 22, 2025) – A violent rollover crash left two women with severe injuries on Tuesday night, October 21, in Kalihi. The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Funston Road and Kaua Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Witnesses said one of the cars lost control while making a sharp turn, struck another vehicle, and rolled over. The impact crushed part of the car’s roof and trapped one woman inside as debris scattered across the road.

Honolulu firefighters and paramedics reached the scene within minutes and worked tirelessly to free the trapped woman. Paramedics treated both victims, ages 57 and 60, at the scene before rushing them to a nearby hospital. Doctors described their injuries as severe and life-threatening. A third person at the scene declined transport after being checked by emergency crews.

Honolulu Police Department officers blocked off the road for several hours as they examined the wreckage, gathered evidence, and spoke with witnesses to understand how the crash occurred. Investigators are still determining whether speeding, distraction, or impairment played a role in the collision.

We wish the injured woman a full and swift recovery.

Car Accidents in Hawaii

Car accidents in Hawaii can happen in seconds, yet the aftermath can last a lifetime. Busy areas like Kalihi often see heavy evening traffic where one careless move can cause a devastating crash. Speeding, distraction, or failing to yield can turn a routine drive into a moment that changes lives forever.

Victims of severe crashes suffer catastrophic injuries such as:

  • Head and brain trauma can affect memory, speech, and coordination.
  • Spinal cord damage may cause long-term nerve pain or paralysis.
  • Broken bones that require surgery and months of rehabilitation.
  • Internal bleeding and organ damage can be life-threatening if untreated.

The aftermath of a major crash goes beyond the physical pain. Victims and their families face emotional distress, mounting medical bills, and lost income. Insurance companies often rush to settle for less than what victims truly need to recover, leaving them struggling to rebuild their lives.

If you or a loved one suffered serious injuries in a crash, you may be entitled to compensation. This can cover medical care, lost income, pain and suffering, and long-term care. A trusted Honolulu accident lawyer can protect your rights, gather critical evidence, and negotiate for the full recovery you deserve.
