Honolulu, HI – Two Hospitalized in Pedestrian Crash on Kapahulu Ave

August 25, 2025

Honolulu, HI (August 25, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized following a pedestrian accident on Sunday morning, August 24, in Honolulu, according to officers with the Honolulu Police Department (HPD).

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on Kapahulu Avenue, when a car allegedly struck a 75-year-old man. The impact caused the man to collide with a 70-year-old woman, knocking her to the ground, officials said. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crews treated both victims at the scene. The man was transported to the hospital in stable condition, while the woman was taken in serious condition, authorities reported. Meanwhile, the HPD is investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their family members at this time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Honolulu

Honolulu’s congested streets make it one of the most dangerous places in Hawaii for pedestrians. Each year, dozens of people are struck while walking, often in crosswalks, at intersections, or along major thoroughfares such as Ala Moana Boulevard, King Street, and Kapiolani Boulevard. Heavy traffic, distracted driving, and limited visibility at night all contribute to the persistent risk of a serious pedestrian accident.

Most of these accidents are preventable and occur because of negligent driver behavior. Common causes include speeding through intersections, failing to yield at crosswalks, running red lights, texting while driving, or operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. For pedestrians, the consequences are devastating—without the protection of a vehicle, even a low-speed impact can cause catastrophic or fatal injuries.

Victims of pedestrian accidents in Honolulu frequently suffer traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones, and internal injuries. These conditions often require emergency medical treatment, multiple surgeries, extended rehabilitation, and, in many cases, long-term or lifelong care.

The financial toll can be overwhelming, with families facing mounting hospital bills, lost income, and the ongoing costs of recovery.

Under Hawaii law, injured pedestrians may pursue a personal injury claim to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and future care needs. In fatal pedestrian accidents, surviving family members may also have the right to file a wrongful death claim to seek justice and financial support for funeral costs and other losses.

Unfortunately, insurance companies frequently attempt to minimize claims or shift blame onto the pedestrian. Without strong legal representation, many victims and families settle for far less than they are entitled to. An experienced Honolulu pedestrian accident lawyer can investigate the crash, preserve evidence, negotiate with insurers, and fight to ensure your rights are protected.
