Honolulu, HI – Teen Seriously Injured in Moped Crash on S. King St

November 4, 2025

Honolulu, HI (November 4, 2025) – On Monday, November 3, an 18-year-old woman was seriously injured after her moped was struck by a vehicle on South King Street near a Longs Drugs store.

According to Emergency Medical Services, the crash occurred around 4:45 p.m. when the teen was reportedly riding her moped in the bike lane and was hit by a passing vehicle. Paramedics arrived quickly at the scene and transported her to a nearby emergency room in serious condition. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the driver remained at the scene or if any citations were issued.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision. The Honolulu Police Department has not released additional details, but the crash temporarily affected traffic in the area as crews assisted the victim and cleared the roadway.

We extend our best wishes for a full recovery to the young woman injured in this accident.

Moped and Motorcycle Accidents in Honolulu

Moped and motorcycle collisions are a persistent concern in Honolulu, where dense traffic, narrow lanes, and mixed-use roads often create hazardous conditions for two-wheeled riders. South King Street, in particular, sees heavy vehicle and pedestrian activity throughout the day, increasing the likelihood of near-miss situations or accidents involving smaller vehicles like mopeds. The combination of fast-moving traffic, frequent intersections, and limited dedicated space for two-wheeled vehicles can make navigation especially dangerous for riders.

These crashes can have devastating outcomes due to the limited protection riders have compared to drivers in enclosed vehicles. Common injuries include fractures, head trauma, road rash, and internal injuries, many of which require prolonged recovery and rehabilitation. Even when riders wear helmets, the impact from a car or truck can result in serious, sometimes life-changing injuries that affect mobility, independence, and overall quality of life. Recovery often demands extensive physical therapy and medical treatment, placing emotional and financial stress on both victims and their families.

Several factors frequently contribute to moped accidents in Honolulu. Driver inattention remains one of the most common causes, with motorists often failing to notice smaller vehicles in adjacent lanes or during turns. Speeding, unsafe lane changes, and failure to yield to mopeds or bicycles traveling in designated lanes also increase collision risks.

In addition, poor road maintenance or debris in bike lanes can cause riders to lose control, especially during rain or heavy traffic conditions. Environmental factors such as glare from the sun or limited lighting at night can also reduce visibility, making it harder for both drivers and riders to anticipate danger and avoid crashes.

Victims of moped and motorcycle crashes often face significant physical, financial, and emotional challenges after an accident. Beyond hospital bills and therapy, they may also experience lost income and emotional distress that affect daily life. Seeking medical care immediately and consulting with a knowledgeable Honolulu moped accident lawyer can help victims understand their rights and options for compensation.
