Honolulu, HI – Teen Riders Suffer Serious Injuries in E-Bike Accident Near Alapoai St

December 10, 2025

Honolulu, HI (December 10, 2025) – Two teenagers suffered serious injuries after an e-bike and a car collided on Sunday night, December 7, near Alapoai Street in Honolulu. The crash happened around 8:40 p.m., according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Emergency crews arrived within minutes and found both teens lying on the road. Officials said a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were riding together on the e-bike when a car struck them. Paramedics treated the victims at the scene for serious injuries before rushing them to a nearby hospital for more care.

Crews blocked off the area while investigators examined the crash site. Officers photographed the scene, inspected the damaged e-bike, and spoke with witnesses to understand what happened before the collision. The Honolulu Police Department continues to investigate the crash.

We hope both teenagers make a full and steady recovery.

E-Bike Accidents in Hawaii

E-bikes have become popular across Hawaii as an easy and affordable way to travel, especially in busy cities like Honolulu. But when riders share the road with larger vehicles, accidents can happen in seconds. Because e-bikes offer little protection, even a minor impact can lead to life-changing injuries.

Hawaiian law requires e-bike riders to follow the same traffic rules as drivers. Riders must stay in bike lanes, obey traffic lights, and wear helmets if they are under 18. However, many crashes still happen when drivers fail to notice e-bikes or when riders go without proper safety gear.

Common injuries in e-bike crashes include:

  • Head Injuries: Riders face a high risk of concussions or brain trauma.
  • Spinal Injuries: Hard impacts can cause back pain, nerve damage, or paralysis.
  • Broken Bones: Arms, legs, and ribs are especially vulnerable in these crashes.
  • Internal Injuries: Organ damage or internal bleeding can occur even when wounds aren’t visible.

Recovering from an e-bike crash can take months or longer. Victims often deal with high medical bills, missed work, and emotional distress. Families may also struggle with insurance issues and the financial strain that follows.

Getting help from an experienced Honolulu personal injury lawyer can make a major difference. A lawyer can investigate the crash, gather evidence, and fight to make sure you receive fair compensation for medical treatment, lost income, and pain.
