Honolulu, HI – Teen Killed in Motorbike Crash at Kolowaka Dr & Fort Weaver Rd

August 21, 2025

Honolulu, HI (August 21, 2025) – A 14-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a crash on Wednesday morning, August 20, in Ewa Beach.

The accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Kolowaka Drive and Fort Weaver Road. A vehicle struck the boy’s motorbike at the crossing, throwing him onto the pavement.

Emergency crews responded within minutes, provided urgent treatment, and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts, he died later that morning from his injuries.

The Honolulu Police Department secured the scene, redirected traffic, and launched an investigation. Officers documented the crash site, gathered physical evidence, and spoke with witnesses. Police confirmed that the driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated fully.

Fire crews cleared debris from the roadway while tow trucks removed the damaged motorbike and car. Investigators have not yet released information about possible contributing factors.

The Honolulu Police Department continues to lead the investigation and is urging anyone with additional details to come forward.

We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family as they grieve this heartbreaking loss.

Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Hawaii

Fatal motorcycle accidents are among the most devastating tragedies on Hawaii’s roads. Motorcyclists are extremely vulnerable in crashes with larger vehicles, and without the protection of a car or truck, the impact often causes catastrophic or fatal injuries. Even collisions at moderate speeds can end a rider’s life.

Many of these crashes stem from negligent driving. The most common contributing factors include:

  • Driving Under the Influence: Alcohol and drug use slow reaction times, impair judgment, and dramatically increase the risk of deadly collisions.
  • Distracted Driving: Cell phones, food, and conversations inside the vehicle pull attention away from the road and put riders in immediate danger.
  • Aggressive Driving: Speeding, tailgating, and weaving through traffic create situations where motorcyclists have little to no chance to avoid impact.

The effects of a fatal motorcycle accident extend far beyond the crash itself. Families are left with sudden, heartbreaking loss while also facing overwhelming financial and emotional challenges. Funeral expenses, medical bills, and the loss of a loved one’s income and support can leave surviving relatives struggling to move forward.

Hawaiian law allows families to file wrongful death claims after a fatal motorcycle accident. Through these claims, families can seek compensation for medical care, funeral expenses, lost wages, loss of companionship, and pain and suffering. Taking legal action not only provides financial relief—it also holds negligent drivers accountable and promotes safer roads for everyone.

A Honolulu wrongful death lawyer can explain your options, guide you through the legal process, and protect your rights from the very start.
