Honolulu, HI – Several Injured After Vehicle Strikes Pedestrians on Kalakaua Ave

December 30, 2025

Honolulu, HI (December 30, 2025) – A vehicle hit several pedestrians on Saturday, December 27, on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki, according to the Honolulu Police Department. The collision happened around 4:18 p.m. and left multiple people injured.

Emergency crews arrived within minutes. Paramedics from Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated a 68-year-old male driver who suffered multiple traumatic injuries. They stabilized him on-site before rushing him to a trauma hospital, where doctors listed him in serious condition.

Medics also treated a 60-year-old male pedestrian who suffered severe injuries. They took him to a trauma center for further treatment. Two women, ages 27 and 52, received treatment at the scene for minor injuries but declined transport.

Officers with the Honolulu Police Department documented evidence, reviewed nearby surveillance footage, and spoke with witnesses to determine how the collision occurred. Crews later removed the vehicle and cleared the area after investigators completed their initial review.

Authorities have not released details about what caused the crash. The Honolulu Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Our hearts are with everyone injured in this Waikiki crash, and we wish them a full and steady recovery.

Compensation Available After Pedestrian Accidents in Hawaii

Pedestrian crashes happen far too often in Hawaii, especially in busy areas like Waikiki. Thousands of pedestrians across the islands suffer injuries every year while simply walking to work, shopping, or sightseeing. These incidents remind everyone how a single moment on the road can change lives forever.

Victims of pedestrian crashes often suffer head injuries, broken bones, spinal damage, and internal bleeding. These injuries can require emergency surgery, hospital stays, and months of physical therapy. The recovery process is often long and painful, forcing victims to take time off work and face overwhelming medical expenses.

Under Hawaii law, injured pedestrians may pursue compensation when another driver’s negligence causes their injuries. Compensation may cover hospital bills, future medical treatment, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Victims who suffer lasting disabilities may also recover damages for long-term care and reduced earning capacity.

Because Hawaii follows a no-fault insurance system, victims must first use their Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage for medical expenses, regardless of fault. Once those benefits are exhausted or injuries meet the state’s “serious injury” threshold, victims may file additional claims against the at-fault driver for full compensation.

Navigating this process can feel overwhelming without legal support. An experienced Honolulu pedestrian accident lawyer can review insurance coverage, gather evidence, negotiate with insurers, and pursue the maximum compensation allowed under Hawaii law.
