Honolulu, HI – Serious Injury Crash at H3 Fwy Exit 1A

September 4, 2025

Honolulu, HI (September 4, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a major crash on Wednesday, September 3, that left several people injured. The accident happened just before 8:00 p.m. near Exit 1a on the H3 Freeway, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Two vehicles collided in the middle of the morning commute. The impact crushed one car and trapped a person inside. Witnesses described the crash as severe, with debris scattered across multiple lanes. Firefighters arrived within minutes and worked quickly to cut the victim out of the mangled vehicle.

Firefighters used rescue tools to cut through the wreckage and free the victim. Paramedics treated the injured driver immediately, then transported them to a nearby hospital for emergency care.

Police shut down several lanes of the freeway for nearly two hours while they investigated and cleared the roadway.

The Honolulu Police Department is still investigating the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full and speedy recovery.

Car Accidents in Hawaii

Car accidents remain one of the most serious safety concerns in Honolulu. The H-3 Freeway, the busiest highway on Oahu, is especially dangerous due to heavy traffic and frequent congestion.

The leading causes of freeway accidents in Hawaii include:

  • Distracted Driving: Looking at a phone or adjusting controls can cause drivers to miss hazards.
  • Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drug use remain a major factor in serious collisions.
  • Reckless Driving: Unsafe lane changes, tailgating, and failing to yield create dangerous situations.
  • Poor Weather or Visibility: Rain, darkness, and glare make it harder for drivers to react in time.

When crashes occur on major roadways, the consequences can be devastating. Victims often suffer broken bones, spinal cord injuries, internal bleeding, or traumatic brain injuries. Even when recovery is possible, it may take months of surgery, rehabilitation, and therapy.

Beyond the physical injuries, victims often face financial struggles. Medical bills can pile up quickly, and time away from work makes it difficult to stay afloat. Families may also need to provide constant care and emotional support.

Insurance companies usually act fast, but not always in the victim’s best interest. Many times, they push for low settlements that do not cover long-term expenses. Without proper legal help, victims may be left without the resources they need to recover.

That’s why having an experienced Honolulu car accident lawyer is so important. A lawyer can investigate the crash, gather evidence, and negotiate directly with insurance companies.
