Honolulu, HI – Serious Injuries in H-1 Fwy Crash Near 6th Ave Off-Ramp
December 26, 2025
Honolulu, HI (December 26, 2025) – On Wednesday, December 24, shortly before 9:00 p.m., emergency responders were called to the scene of a traffic collision involving at least two vehicles with injuries on the H-1 Freeway in Honolulu, near the 6th Avenue off-ramp.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated a 62-year-old woman at the scene before transporting her to a local hospital in serious condition. Two additional individuals, identified as a 28-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man, were also evaluated by EMS. Both declined further medical treatment after being assessed at the scene.
Significant damage was reported in at least one vehicle, including a car that appeared to have nearly lost its rear bumper following the collision. Debris and damaged vehicles were visible along the side of the freeway.
As a result of the crash, two eastbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway were temporarily closed to allow emergency crews to assist the injured and clear the roadway. All lanes have since reopened. At this time, the cause of the crash has not been determined. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
We extend our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to those injured in this collision.
Understanding Traffic Accidents in Honolulu
Traffic accidents remain a serious public safety issue in Honolulu, where busy freeways like the H-1 experience heavy traffic volumes throughout the day and night. Congestion, frequent lane changes, and high-speed travel increase the likelihood of multi-vehicle collisions, particularly during evening hours.
Common contributing factors in Honolulu crashes include distracted driving, speeding, failure to maintain safe following distances, and impaired driving. Sudden traffic slowdowns on freeways can also lead to rear-end collisions and chain-reaction crashes. Weather conditions, such as unexpected rain showers, can further reduce visibility and roadway traction.
Injuries sustained in freeway accidents can range from minor to life-threatening, often requiring emergency care, hospitalization, and extended recovery periods. Victims may face mounting medical expenses, lost wages, and long-term physical limitations.
Hawaiian law allows injured parties to seek compensation for medical costs, lost income, property damage, and pain and suffering. Claims are typically pursued through the at-fault driver’s insurance or through uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage when applicable. Consulting with a Honolulu car accident lawyer can help ensure victims’ rights are protected and that they receive fair compensation.
