Honolulu, HI – Resident Hospitalized After Apt Fire on Ena Rd in Waikiki

September 1, 2025

Honolulu, HI (September 1, 2025) – The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded late Saturday night, August 30, to a building fire at 425 Ena Road in Waikiki after receiving a 911 call at 10:54 p.m.

The first fire crew arrived on scene at 10:59 p.m. and initially reported no visible signs of fire at the mid-level apartment building. However, building security informed responders that flames were coming from the penthouse level. According to HFD, two patients were evaluated at the scene by EMS. One person declined transport, while paramedics transported another one to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Honolulu Fire Department’s Fire Investigator determined that the blaze was accidental, caused by unattended cooking in the penthouse unit. However, no further details were provided, and an investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their family members at this time. We hope for their full and fast recovery.

Residential Fires in Hawaii

Kitchen fires are one of the leading causes of residential and commercial fires in the United States. According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking-related fires account for a significant portion of the more than 350,000 house fires reported annually. Tragically, these incidents claim the lives of approximately 2,600 people every year and leave countless others with devastating injuries.

In Hawaii, kitchen fires often result from unattended cooking, grease flare-ups, or malfunctioning appliances. These fires can spread within seconds, engulfing homes, apartments, or restaurants in smoke and flames. Victims are frequently left with severe burns, smoke inhalation injuries, and long-term physical and emotional scars.

The financial toll of a kitchen fire injury can be overwhelming. Even moderate burn injuries may result in medical expenses exceeding $200,000, not including follow-up surgeries, rehabilitation, and treatment for scarring. Many victims also face reduced earning capacity, lost wages, and the ongoing costs of emotional support services to cope with trauma.

Unfortunately, pursuing full and fair compensation after a fire is rarely straightforward. Insurance companies may attempt to minimize payouts or dispute liability, making it critical for victims to seek strong legal representation.

A dedicated attorney can investigate the cause of the kitchen fire, determine liability, and help secure the maximum financial recovery for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other losses.
