Honolulu, HI – Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run at N School St and Kokea St
September 24, 2025
Honolulu, HI (September 24, 2025) – A pedestrian tragically lost her life following a violent hit-and-run crash in Kalihi on Monday evening, September 22. The deadly collision happened around 7:00 p.m. along North School Street near the intersection with Kokea Street.
The Honolulu Police Department reported that a 58-year-old woman attempted to cross North School Street inside a marked crosswalk. At that moment, a male driver turned left from Kokea Street and struck her. Witnesses said the impact threw the woman to the ground, leaving her critically injured.
Instead of stopping, the driver fled westbound on North School Street, abandoning the victim in the roadway. Emergency Medical Services quickly responded and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of doctors, she later succumbed to her injuries.
The Honolulu Police Department confirmed that speed did not appear to play a role in the crash. Investigators are still reviewing whether alcohol or drugs were factors. Detectives remained on the scene for hours, gathering evidence, speaking with witnesses, and searching for surveillance video to help identify the fleeing driver.
As of Wednesday morning, the suspect remains unidentified. The Honolulu Police Department continues to investigate this heartbreaking incident.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family as they face this heartbreaking loss.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Hawaii
Pedestrian fatalities remain one of the most tragic outcomes of traffic crashes in Hawaii. In busy areas like Honolulu, residents and visitors rely on crosswalks every day to travel safely. But when drivers fail to yield, speed through intersections, or flee the scene, the results are often catastrophic.
Reports show that pedestrian deaths continue to rise across Hawaii. Dangerous driving behaviors such as distracted driving, impaired driving, and reckless driving contribute to many of these crashes. Hit-and-run cases, like the one on North School Street, leave families searching for justice while dealing with unbearable grief.
When families lose a loved one in a pedestrian crash, they may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Compensation can cover medical expenses, funeral costs, loss of income, and the emotional suffering caused by the tragedy. However, insurance companies often work to limit payouts, making it difficult for families to recover the full support they need.
That’s why having a brave Honolulu wrongful death attorney matters. A lawyer can investigate the crash, hold negligent drivers accountable, and pursue the compensation your family needs.
