Honolulu, HI – Pedestrian Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run on Kawaihao St

September 10, 2025

Honolulu, HI (September 10, 2025) – A violent hit-and-run in Kakaako left a 60-year-old man in critical condition on Monday, September 8. The crash happened around 11:40 p.m. on Kawaihao Street near Kamani Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Investigators said the pedestrian walked in the roadway when a westbound vehicle struck him. The impact threw him onto the pavement, leaving him with catastrophic injuries.

Bystanders rushed to the injured man and called for help. Emergency crews arrived minutes later. Paramedics stabilized him at the scene and rushed him to a nearby hospital.

Police confirmed the driver did not stop to render aid or provide information and continued westbound on Kawaihao Street. Authorities have not yet determined whether speed, alcohol, or drugs played a role in the crash.

The Honolulu Police Department continues to investigate the case and urged anyone with information to contact its Traffic Division.

Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian and his family during this difficult time. We wish him a full and swift recovery.

Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in Hawaii

Pedestrian accidents in Hawaii create devastating outcomes for victims and families. Streets across Honolulu and other urban areas often stay busy with heavy traffic, making collisions a serious concern. When a driver flees after a crash, the results grow even more tragic.

When a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the injuries are often severe. Victims suffer broken bones, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and internal bleeding. These injuries change lives in an instant.

Victims endure long hospital stays, painful rehabilitation, and emotional trauma. Families must cope with the heavy burden of medical bills and lost income while supporting their loved ones’ recovery.

Hit-and-run crashes add another layer of pain. Victims feel abandoned, and families face frustration when drivers escape accountability. These incidents highlight the urgent need for awareness, responsibility, and legal protection for pedestrians across Hawaii.

When you or someone you love suffers harm in a pedestrian crash, you deserve strong legal support. Insurance companies often pressure victims to accept quick settlements that fail to cover long-term needs.

A skilled Honolulu pedestrian accident lawyer can gather evidence, investigate the incident, and fight to recover full compensation. This may include payment for hospital bills, lost wages, future medical care, and emotional suffering.
