Honolulu, HI – Motorcyclist Suffers Head Injury in Crash on Farrington Hwy

August 23, 2025

Honolulu, HI (August 23, 2025) – A serious crash between two motorcycles left one rider with a severe head injury on Friday afternoon, August 22.

The accident happened near Keawaula Bay on Farrington Highway. The Honolulu Police Department reported that two motorcycles collided while heading north. The impact threw a 33-year-old rider from his bike, leaving him with a major head injury.

Emergency crews arrived quickly and provided first aid at the scene. Paramedics then transported the rider to a nearby hospital, where doctors listed him in serious condition. The second motorcyclist involved in the crash did not report any injuries.

Officials shut down part of Farrington Highway while they spoke with witnesses and gathered evidence.

Authorities are reviewing road conditions, vehicle damage, and eyewitness reports to determine the cause of the accident. The Honolulu Police Department is leading the investigation and will share more information as it becomes available.

Our thoughts are with the injured rider and his family during this difficult time.

Motorcycle Accidents in Hawaii

Riding a motorcycle in Hawaii offers freedom and stunning scenery, but it also comes with serious dangers. The state’s roads twist through hills and coastlines, often crowded with heavy traffic. Even skilled riders face risks when drivers are careless or when road conditions change suddenly.

Hawaii sees a high number of motorcycle accidents each year. Many of the most serious crashes occur on major highways such as Farrington, H-1, and H-2. These roads combine fast-moving vehicles, sharp turns, and narrow lanes, creating especially dangerous conditions for riders.

Several factors often contribute to motorcycle crashes in Hawaii:

  • Distracted Driving: Distracted driving, texting, or adjusting devices often leads to devastating collisions.
  • Speeding: High speeds reduce reaction time and increase the severity of crashes. On roads like Farrington Highway, speeding drivers pose major risks to motorcyclists.
  • Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drugs slow reaction times and impair judgment, making collisions far more likely.
  • Unsafe Lane Changes: Drivers frequently overlook motorcycles when changing lanes or turning at intersections. Even a single careless move can cause a serious crash.

Unlike drivers protected by a car’s frame, motorcyclists are directly exposed to road hazards. They take the full force of an impact in a crash. Even at low speeds, the injuries can be devastating.

Head trauma is among the most common and severe injuries in motorcycle crashes. These injuries range from concussions to traumatic brain injuries, which can cause permanent disabilities. Riders also face broken bones, spinal cord injuries, and severe road rash, each requiring long and painful recoveries.

The effects of these injuries extend beyond physical harm. Victims often face long hospital stays, expensive surgeries, and months of therapy. Many cannot return to work, leaving families without income while medical bills continue to grow.

When a motorcycle crash happens because of negligence, victims have the right to seek justice. Hawaii law allows injured riders to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, rehabilitation, and pain and suffering.

However, insurance companies often try to reduce payouts or deny full compensation, making it harder for victims to move forward. A Honolulu motorcycle accident lawyer can negotiate with insurance companies and ensure you’re treated fairly.
