Honolulu, HI – Man Dies After Being Struck on Liliha St

October 16, 2025

Honolulu, HI (October 16, 2025)  A 70-year-old man who suffered catastrophic injuries in a pedestrian crash in Honolulu last month died on Wednesday, October 15.

The devastating collision happened on Tuesday, September 30, around 9:10 p.m. on the Liliha Street on-ramp to the H-1 Freeway eastbound. According to the Honolulu Police Department, a 61-year-old driver traveled south on Liliha Street and made a left turn onto the H-1 Freeway. He struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the roadway inside a marked crosswalk against a “Do Not Walk” signal.

The impact threw the man onto the pavement and caused severe trauma. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, provided lifesaving treatment, and transported him to a nearby hospital for intensive care. Despite weeks of treatment, he later died. The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Honolulu Police Department of his death on Wednesday.

The driver stayed at the scene and did not suffer injuries. Investigators said speed, alcohol, or drugs did not appear to contribute to the crash. Authorities continue to review evidence and interview witnesses to understand how the tragedy occurred.

We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family during this tragic time.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Hawaii

Fatal pedestrian accidents leave families devastated, both emotionally and financially. In an instant, a loved one’s life is gone, and those left behind must navigate unimaginable grief while facing sudden expenses and financial challenges. Sadly, incidents like the one on Liliha Street happen far too often in Hawaii, where busy intersections, freeway ramps, and nighttime traffic increase the risk for pedestrians.

While nothing can replace the loss of a loved one, pursuing a wrongful death claim can help families find justice and secure crucial financial support during such a difficult time. Compensation in these cases may include:

  • Medical Bills: Compensation may cover emergency care, hospital treatment, surgeries, and other medical services before the victim’s passing.
  • Funeral and Burial Expenses: Families may receive payment for funeral services, memorials, and burial or cremation costs.
  • Lost Income and Future Earnings: Loved ones can be compensated for lost wages and future financial support.
  • Pain and Suffering: Courts often recognize the grief, anguish, and trauma caused by a sudden loss.
  • Loss of Companionship: Families may seek support for the emotional void and lost relationship they now face.
