Common Injuries in Pali Highway Traffic Accidents

Crashes on the Pali Highway, which connects downtown Honolulu to Windward Oahu, often occur on steep or winding sections of road, leading to serious injuries. Some of the most common include:

  • Whiplash and neck injuries: Sudden braking or rear-end impacts can strain muscles and ligaments in the neck and shoulders, resulting in pain and limited motion.
  • Head injuries: Drivers and passengers may suffer concussions or traumatic brain injuries, particularly if airbags fail to deploy or the force of impact is severe.
  • Fractures and broken bones: Collisions at higher speeds can cause breaks in the arms, ribs, or legs, sometimes requiring surgery or prolonged rehabilitation.
  • Spinal cord injuries: The strong impact of highway crashes can lead to herniated discs, nerve damage, or paralysis in severe cases.
  • Internal trauma: Organs like the lungs, liver, or kidneys may be damaged by the force of impact or seatbelt pressure, necessitating emergency medical attention.
  • Cuts and abrasions: Broken glass and twisted metal frequently cause surface wounds that may require stitches or reconstructive care.
  • Beyond physical harm, victims of serious collisions may experience emotional distress, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress following the event.
