Honolulu, HI – Four Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on H-1 Fwy

September 23, 2025

Honolulu, HI (September 23, 2025) Four people suffered severe injuries on Sunday, September 21, in a violent multi-vehicle crash on the H-1 Freeway in Aiea. The collision happened around 10:40 p.m., according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Investigators said a 24-year-old driver was heading westbound when he struck a 28-year-old driver who had stopped in the roadway after an earlier crash. The impact spun the stopped car and pushed it toward three pedestrians standing nearby. All three men, ages 24, 35, and 51, were hit and suffered serious injuries.

After the initial impact, the 24-year-old driver’s vehicle then slammed into a parked, unattended car on the shoulder, scattering debris across the freeway. Firefighters secured the wreckage while paramedics rushed to aid the injured.

Medics transported the 51-year-old and 35-year-old pedestrians to the hospital in critical condition. The 28-year-old driver and the 24-year-old pedestrian were hospitalized in serious condition. Doctors continue to monitor their recovery. The 24-year-old driver who triggered the crash refused medical treatment at the scene.

Honolulu Police officers remained on-site into the early morning hours, photographing the wreckage, speaking with witnesses, and examining the damaged vehicles. Investigators have not yet determined if speeding, alcohol, or drugs played a role. The investigation is ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the four victims and their families as they face a difficult recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in Hawaii

Pedestrian crashes often cause devastating injuries because people on foot have no protection against fast-moving vehicles. Even at lower speeds, collisions can lead to broken bones, spinal injuries, or traumatic brain damage. On high-traffic routes like the H-1 Freeway, the risks grow even greater.

This crash in Honolulu shows how quickly a routine night can turn tragic. Pedestrians standing near a disabled vehicle had no time to react when another driver lost control. Sadly, similar stories unfold too often in Honolulu and across the islands.

The most common causes of pedestrian accidents in Hawaii are:

  • Distracted Driving: Looking at a phone or screen for even a moment can be deadly.
  • Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drugs remain major factors in serious crashes.
  • Speeding: Higher speeds increase the force of impact and severity of injuries.
  • Low Visibility: Night driving makes it harder to see pedestrians in or near the roadway.

For survivors, the aftermath is overwhelming. Victims face months of treatment and rehabilitation while medical bills and lost wages pile up. Families often carry the financial and emotional burden of long recoveries.

That is why having an experienced legal team matters. A trusted Honolulu pedestrian accident lawyer can investigate the crash, gather evidence, and hold insurance companies accountable. With strong legal support, you can pursue compensation for medical care, lost income, long-term needs, and the pain caused by the accident.
