September 3, 2026
Honolulu, HI (September 3, 2026) – A woman died, and another woman was critically injured in a rollover crash on Bingham Street in Honolulu on Tuesday, September 1. The collision happened at about 11:50 p.m.
The Honolulu Police Department reported that a 26-year-old woman was driving eastbound in the McCully area with three passengers when her vehicle sideswiped a parked, unoccupied vehicle. That vehicle then struck another parked vehicle and a fire hydrant before the moving vehicle overturned.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated two people and took them to a local hospital. The driver was initially listed in critical condition and later died from her injuries. A 25-year-old passenger was also hospitalized in critical condition. Another 25-year-old passenger and a juvenile passenger were not injured.
EMS also evaluated two other people at the scene, including a 1-year-old child, but neither required transport.
The Honolulu Police Department continues to investigate the wreck.
Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the woman who died, and we hope the injured passenger makes a steady recovery.
What Legal Options Do Injured Passengers Have After a Crash in Honolulu, HI?
After a crash in Honolulu, an injured passenger may seek compensation through available insurance coverage and, when another person is responsible, a personal injury claim. Compensation may cover medical expenses, lost income, pain, and other crash-related losses.
Because passengers are not controlling the vehicle, an important question is whose actions caused the crash. Responsibility may fall on the driver you were riding with, another motorist, or more than one person.
Under Hawaii’s no-fault system, personal injury protection coverage may pay qualifying medical expenses regardless of who caused the crash. PIP can help cover treatment costs while responsibility and any additional claim are reviewed.
If your injuries support a claim beyond no-fault benefits, the amount you may recover depends on your specific losses. Medical bills, missed work, ongoing treatment, and how the injuries affect your daily life can all matter when determining a claim’s value.
If insurance questions come up, a Honolulu car accident lawyer can review available policies and determine which claims may apply. An attorney can also communicate with insurers and address disputes over responsibility while you focus on recovery.
