Bicycle Accident Injuries in Hawaii

Wahiawa, HI - Victim in Serious Condition After Bicycle Crash on Kamehameha HwyEvery day, bicycle crashes occur in the United States. In 2012, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that over 50,000 cyclists were injured in collisions with motor vehicles. The bulk of these events was attributable to driver error.

There are an infinite number of ways a truck or automobile driver might be careless, including:

  • Exceeding the speed limit
  • Driving when inattentive
  • Not yielding the right-of-way
  • Inadequate car maintenance
  • Driving while impaired
  • Disobeying traffic signals and signage
  • Following too closely behind another car (tailgating)
  • Failure to employ turn signals
  • Lack of experience

In the context of personal injury law, the term carelessness carries with it extremely specific meanings. Before providing a recorded statement to an insurance company or agreeing to a settlement offer, it is imperative that bicycle riders injured in a collision with a motor vehicle consult with a reputable personal injury attorney in Wailua about the incident’s facts.

When bicycles are struck by bigger, heavier autos, their injuries are often severe. A human body, as fragile as it may be, is simply no match for a moving truck, automobile, or motorbike. In addition, cyclists may easily be catapulted from their bikes and get secondary injuries if they collide with asphalt, another vehicle, structures, or buildings in the area of an accident.

Among the most prevalent types of injuries sustained by cyclists in Hawaii are the following:

  • Cracked or broken bones
  • Trauma to the brain
  • Contusions and cutaneous wounds
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Damage to essential internal organs

These and countless other injuries that often arise from motorists impacting bicycles may cause great bodily and mental suffering. In addition, injuries of this severity might prevent a sufferer from returning to work for weeks or even months, resulting in a significant loss of revenue. In extreme situations, victims may need a 24-hour-a-day in-home caregiver to help them with their everyday requirements.

A qualified attorney can assist you in obtaining monetary compensation for these and any losses you may have sustained as a result of your bicycle accident.
