Pedestrian Collisions in Hawaii

Ocean View, HI - Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle at Sea Breeze Pky and Bamboo Ln

When any location is used heavily by both pedestrians and motor vehicles, the odds of a pedestrian being struck are considerably greater. It takes just a single reckless driver to critically injure or kill a pedestrian.

The Hawaiian Islands are a prominent destination for tourists from all over the world. Unfortunately, this causes them to experience more than their fair share of pedestrian accidents.

Even though a very tiny percentage of pedestrian injuries are intentionally inflicted by drivers, most of them are the result of simple driver negligence. The most common kinds of negligent drivers in Hawaii include those who:

  • Exceed the speed limit
  • Are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
  • Are distracted
  • Disregard traffic lights or signs
  • Fail to yield at crosswalks
  • Do not use their turn indicators
  • Fail to drive cautiously during inclement weather
  • Fail to show due care in places where children are known to be present
