North Kona, HI – Couple Killed in Two-Car Crash on Queen Kaahumanu Hwy

North Kona, HI (February 19, 2025) – Hawaii Island police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a husband and wife from Waimea early Tuesday morning. The crash happened at around 5:40 a.m. on Queen Kaahumanu Highway near the Kiholo Bay lookout in North Kona.

Police determined that a silver 2021 Kia Forte sedan traveling southbound toward Kona was attempting to overtake multiple vehicles, including a tractor-trailer carrying a full tank of fuel, when it collided head-on with a northbound brown 2004 Nissan Frontier pickup truck. Police said one of the vehicles caught fire as a result of the collision. However, no further details have been released at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
