Motorcyclist Hospitalized After Wreck on H-1 Fwy in Waimalu, HI

September 6, 2026

Waimalu, HI (September 6, 2026) – A motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash with a stalled vehicle on eastbound H-1 Freeway near the Moanalua Road overpass and Waimalu exit on Saturday, September 5. The collision happened shortly before 9:40 p.m.

Honolulu Police said the 31-year-old motorcyclist was traveling east when he rear-ended a vehicle stalled in the left lane. The rider was thrown onto the roadway.

Emergency crews arrived and assisted those involved. EMS transported the motorcyclist to a hospital in critical condition.

The other driver and two juvenile passengers were not injured. A third juvenile reported minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the crash site.

The crash caused heavy traffic near Moanalua Road and the Waimalu exit for several hours.

The investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with those injured as they recover.

Should I See a Doctor If I Have Minor Injuries After a Crash in Waimalu, HI?

Yes. If you have minor injuries after a crash, seeing a doctor can help determine whether you need treatment and whether symptoms that seem mild may require further care.

After a collision, the timing of your medical care can become important in an insurance claim. If there is a long delay before your first visit, an insurer may question whether your injuries are connected to the crash.

When you meet with a medical provider, explain when your symptoms began and whether they have changed since the collision. This can help your provider understand what may need to be examined and whether additional care is appropriate.

Under Hawaii’s no-fault system, personal injury protection coverage generally pays qualifying medical expenses regardless of who caused the crash. The amount available depends on your policy and the treatment involved.

If you declined treatment at the crash site, you can still seek care later if symptoms appear or become worse. Leaving without immediate treatment does not necessarily mean that you were not injured.

As an insurance claim moves forward, questions may arise about whether certain treatment is related to the collision or covered under your policy. These disputes can affect how medical expenses are handled.

When an insurer challenges your claim, a Waimalu car accident lawyer can review the medical and insurance issues involved and explain the legal options that may apply to your situation.
