Motorcycle Crashes in Hawaii
Motorcycle accidents happen all too often in the United States and across the state of Hawaii. Due to its beautiful scenery and weather, motorcycling is a popular activity in the Aloha State. Unfortunately, motorcyclists usually suffer severe injuries when they become involved in traffic accidents. This is due to the obvious fact that motorcycle riders travel without protection against other vehicles and the asphalt if they become involved in accidents.
Additionally, most motorcycle accidents happen due to the actions of negligent drivers. Over 50% of motorcycle accidents reported in the United States are caused by the actions of negligent drivers who are distracted, speeding, or intoxicated. Failing to yield to motorcyclists is currently the most common reason these types of collisions occur. Common motorcycle injuries include:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Bone breaks/bone fractures
- Damage to the spine
- Disc injury/Disc herniation
- Death
Catastrophic injuries typically lead to catastrophic economic damages, as well as extreme intangible damages like pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional turmoil, and more. From lost wages to medical care costs to intense pain and suffering, the economic impacts of a motorcycle crash can be absolutely devastating to crash victims and their family members. If you or someone you love sustained injuries in a motorcycle crash in Hawaii, you should consider how the wreck happened. If it was caused by driver negligence, you probably have legal options available to you that could help you recover.
The financial problems that arise due to a severe motorcycle accident should be handled as soon as possible. Being stuck in the hospital and unable to work while bills are piling up can be stressful and overwhelming. You may be eligible to collect financial compensation for a wide array of damages that resulted from your accident.
Since July 2015, the law in Hawaii does not require motorcyclists to carry insurance. Due to this, riders who are injured by another driver’s negligence and do not have insurance have no choice but to turn to the insurance of the liable driver.
