Maui, HI – Injuries Reported in Car Crash at Pu’unene & Ka’ahumanu Aves

August 16, 2024

Maui, HI (August 16, 2024)– A serious vehicle crash happened in the Maui area on Friday evening, August 16, and local officers with the Maui Police Department reported to the scene to investigate.

Shortly before 7:45 p.m., emergency responders were sent to the scene. The incident apparently involved at least two vehicles colliding in the stretch along Pu’unene Avenue and Ka’ahumanu Avenue in Kahului. Officials stated that the vehicles blocked the entire intersection after the initial accident at the scene.

A number of potential victim injuries were also reported, requiring MPD officers and Maui Fire Department squads to respond. That said, the circumstances of the accident are currently being investigated by the police, and no further details were made available. Witnesses were asked to come forward and speak with the MPD if they had additional information connected to the crash.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.

Car Accident Injuries in Maui

Serious vehicle collisions and accidents involving multiple drivers are a major issue in the United States and throughout the state of Hawaii. In fact, close to 10,000 car crashes are reported annually in Hawaii, and these incidents cause thousands of people to sustain injuries. Furthermore, every year, more than six million car wrecks are reported nationwide, most of which are caused by driver negligence.

Driver negligence can be displayed in countless ways. However, the most common are speeding, intoxication, distraction, and fatigue. Drivers who pay attention to their phones, the radio, other people in their cars, and anything other than the roadway while operating their motor vehicles put themselves and everyone else at risk for serious injuries or even fatalities.

For example, in one recent year, over 11,000 people were killed due to auto accidents caused by speeding. Speeding is one of the most dangerous types of driver negligence because it leaves drivers no time to stop in case of an accident and increases the dangers and risk of catastrophic injuries in the case of a crash.
