Maui, HI – House Fire, Injuries Reported at Mililani Place in Kihei

December 16, 2024

Maui, HI (December 16, 2024) – Officers with the Maui Police Department (MPD) responded to a report of a structure fire at the end of Mililani Place in Kihei on Sunday evening, December 15.

Prior to the officers’ arrival at the scene of the fire, a loud explosion was heard by neighbors and witnesses in the area. In addition to the MPD, fire rescue teams from the Maui Fire Department also reported to the site of the blaze.

It’s unclear how many people were hurt in the incident, but EMTs were at the scene with the MPD and MFD. In the meantime, the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no further details have been released. However, witnesses were asked to get in touch with the MPD right away if they had additional information related to the fire.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their family members at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Residential & Structure Fires in Hawaii

House fires occur frequently in the United States. The National Fire Protection Association reports that more than 350,000 house fires take place each year throughout the country. Approximately 2,600 people are killed per year in these incidents. These fires can happen for numerous reasons; however, cooking fires most often end up causing damage.

Severe burn treatment is almost always a serious financial issue for patients. The average cost that stems from medical bills for someone who was just moderately injured in a fire is somewhere around $200,000.

Additionally, this total does not include the many other financial problems victims may end up facing, including reduced earning capacity, lost wages, numerous surgeries for scarring, and the many support services utilized to assist them in coping with the emotional trauma that may have stemmed from the event. Fires are some of the most traumatic events people can go through.

Gathering full and fair financial compensation for these damages, along with pain, suffering, and more, is, unfortunately, likely to be a difficult task for victims to accomplish on their own, which is why working with an attorney can prove to be very helpful to you during this trying time. An attorney will thoroughly investigate your claim and help you collect the maximum compensation available for your injuries and losses.
