Maui, HI (May 17, 2023) – A man from Lahaina was arrested on Tuesday morning, May 16, following a hit-and-run collision that ended in injuries. At around 10:12 a.m. on Monday, the man allegedly hit a woman on a moped with his sedan.

Reports indicate the collision occurred on the Honoapi’ilani Highway near Wilikona Place in Waikapu, Maui. Authorities arrested 38-year-old Jermaine Mudong in connection with the incident.

Police say that due to the crash, a woman, age 32, suffered critical, life-threatening injuries after being hit and dragged underneath Mudong’s vehicle. She was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Driver intoxication is believed to be a contributing factor in the cause of the crash. Authorities in Maui continue to investigate.

We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim.

Hawaii Pedestrian Accidents

Pedestrian crashes are some of the most dangerous collisions that can happen on the roadway. Due to the fact that pedestrians are totally unprotected while they travel, they are more susceptible to sustaining severe injuries or even losing their lives when they become involved in accidents. Being injured in a pedestrian crash is never easy and almost always comes with severe and long-lasting consequences.

If you or a loved one have been hurt in a pedestrian crash caused by the actions of a negligent driver, you should speak to a pedestrian crash attorney who can help you recover. Negligent driving is illegal and punishable by fines and even jail time, depending on the nature and severity of the incident. Working with a personal injury lawyer can help you get compensation for the damages you face when you’re hurt in a crash caused by a negligent driver.

Negligent driving has become a serious problem in the United States. On average, over 92% of reported traffic collisions in the United States are caused by some form of driver negligence. Drivers who are distracted, fatigued, intoxicated, or speeding cause millions of injurious and fatal auto collisions every single year in the United States.
