Maui, HI – Bicyclist Dies in Crash on Haleakala Hwy at MM 6

Maui, HI (October 19, 2024) – According to the latest reports from the Maui Police Department, on Friday, October 18, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred on Haleakala Highway (Highway 378), about a mile south of mile marker 6 in Kula.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a 68-year-old male bicyclist was traveling down Haleakala Highway with a Maui Downhill riding group when he was involved in a crash with a vehicle traveling up the road. The bicyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped after the collision and remained on the scene, but the bicyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead before he could be transported to a hospital.
