Kihei, HI – Pedestrian Receives Near-Fatal Injuries After Crash on S. Kīhei Rd

September 25, 2022

Kihei, HI (September 25, 2022) – A 41-year-old woman from North Vernon, IN., sustained life-threatening injuries when she was hit by a driver on South Kīhei Road on Saturday, September 24th.

The incident occurred at about 7:20 p.m. on South Kīhei Road in the area of Nanialiʻi Place.

A police investigation revealed that a 2010 Nissan Altima heading southbound on South Kīhei Road collided with the pedestrian.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment of near-fatal injuries.

The occupants of the Nissan, a 29-year-old man from Wailuku, and his passenger, a 30-year-old woman also from Wailuku, were unharmed during the impact.

Police have ruled out speed as a factor in the accident. The involvement of drugs and alcohol has not yet been determined.

South Kīhei Road was shut down between Ohukai Road and Leilani Road until 10:45 p.m. to allow for police investigation.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Wrongful Deaths in Hawaii

Kihei, HI - Pedestrian Receives Near-Fatal Injuries After Crash on S. Kīhei Rd

After losing a loved one in a fatal accident, surviving family members often face multiple burdens. Other pressing challenges such as burial and funeral decisions, medical bills, emergency care, loss of income, redistribution of family routines and responsibilities, and probate issues can feel like too much to bear when accompanied by overwhelming feelings of loss and grief.

Although no one can give back what has been taken from you, insurance providers usually decide the worth of a person’s life based on the financial contributions they made to the family. Therefore, by their estimation, the loss of a primary wage earner, the family’s breadwinner, holds more value than the loss of a mother who stopped working to homeschool and care for her children, a grandparent who has long since retired, or a young child.

Replacing the income of a primary provider is, without question, extremely important to a family that relied on their income. Other damages, however, like the victim’s role in the family, the emotional trauma of surviving family members, and the value of human life itself can not be overlooked.

Our Hawaii attorneys know the magnitude of immaterial damages like pain, suffering, loss of consortium and companionship, as well as other non-economic damages. We work tirelessly to make sure that families are wholly compensated for the loss of the companionship and support of someone they loved.

A wrongful death action is a civil claim. This means they are handled in civil courts and are separate from any criminal case that involves the defendant. All wrongful death claims are handled on a contingency basis. This means you and your family pay nothing for our assistance until we recover for you.
